Work That God Sees Complete Edition Book Review

Book Description

Moms, you pour yourselves out day after day. How about some powerful refilling, in small, manageable doses?

Short chapters. White space. Deep-down hope, and out-loud laughter.

Because you have what it takes. You are not alone – we’re in this together. Whether you see it or not, you are making progress. You are persevering, and standing your ground. You’re stronger than you used to be. You are watched over and known by the God who notices every detail, and He meets you in these mundane moments and is breathing them into mighty movement.

This is the entire Work That God Sees series in one: all six little books with their snarky recipes, crafty patterns, and questions for personal journaling or small group discussion, plus 25 pages of new stories, recipes, and lessons you can learn at someone else’s expense. Watch out for the cayenne pepper – don’t say I didn’t warn you.

My Thoughts

I am not much of a non-fiction reader, but as I’ve gotten older and my family has grown, I’ve found myself needing to dig deeper into truths I’ve known all my life. I’ve started expanding my reading into books such as this one, and I can honestly say that I’m better for it. I need books like this in my life where I can grab a page or two at a time, and feel like I’ve been given extra nourishment on top of God’s Word.

As a mom, I know I often feel inadequate, barely giving my children what they need. There’s always something begging for attention at the end of a busy workday – usually dinner or bath time or playtime or bedtime or sickness or….well, you fill in the blank. It’s so hard for us moms to find time for ourselves, and when we do, we think if “I had one more minute to do anything on my to-do list, I’d…” instead of giving ourselves some time to breathe. Needless to say, I’ve been through every bit of this and more lately, and then Shannon’s little book fell into my life. Wow, just wow… I freely admit to full-on ugly, cleansing tears on more than one occasion as I just let myself soak in every single word.

There is an abundant sense of grace in every single segment. As a mom of way more children than me, I can’t believe that she does all the things she does, but she freely admits that she gets it wrong sometimes. Don’t we all?! How refreshing is was to see things through a true real-life lens of God’s immeasurable grace and love, not one that Pinterest tells us we should look through for our self worth.

Mamas, this book is for you. It’s broken down into quick segments that fill you up a couple of minutes at a time. It reads like a conversation of real life sprinkled with God’s Word, and it is a gem through and through.

Jewelry Inspired by this Book

In an effort to keep things simple, this book made me think “simplicity” on more than one occasion. Sometimes, our jewelry needs to follow suit, but have a little extra. This key necklace does just that. Easy to wear with anything, but with a simple word that is encouraging and is a reminder that we are lovely, we are enough, and we are worthy.
