Finders Keepers Book Review

Book Description

Three lives. Three hundred years. One ship that ties them together.

Spain, 1689

The same evil that stole her mother’s life stalks Isabella Castellano. Afraid for her safety, Isabella disguises herself as a cabin boy and hires on to one of His Majesty’s treasure fleet vessels. But has her flight from a known threat only led her to be ensnared in a sea of dangers?

Florida, Present Day

Summer Arnet will go anywhere to capture the perfect shot that will get her marine photography noticed by the prestigious nature magazine, Our World—even diving in waters haunted by great white sharks. When a treasure hunter with a ladies’-man reputation approaches her about a sunken ship at one of her dive locations, it may be the chance she’s been looking for to launch her career…if his charming smile doesn’t derail her first.

A past tragedy has left a hole in Trent Carrington’s life—a hole he’s tried to fill with women, money, and adventure. Could the feisty marine photographer be the missing piece, or will Trent finally accept that the treasure he seeks can’t be found where rust and moths destroy?

My Thoughts

Split time books are having a moment in Christian fiction, and Finders Keepers is an excellent addition to this subgenre. Filled with edge-of-your-seat action in 1600s Spain and an unconventional romance in present day, Sarah Monzon has created a plot and characters that are fascinating to read.

At times, I did not want to leave one period to go to the other as I had to know what was going to happen next! The present day portions are very relatable as both characters have struggles in faith and this may be the first CF story I have ever read where two main characters are not believers. The past portions are equally compelling with Isabella pretending to be a boy. Little by little, her actions catch the attention of the ship’s captain and her secret is out. Isabella’s love story is one I didn’t anticipate, but I loved it just as much as Summer and Trent’s.

This novel has lots of secondary characters which are ready and waiting for the next three books in the series. Immediately after I read Finders Keepers, I picked up 12 Days of Snowmen which tells a quick story about Jonathan and how he finds love after heartbreak. Another worthwhile read!

All in all, I loved my first adventure with the Carrington family! Each book in this series follows a split time narrative, and I have no doubt the final three books will be as enjoyable as book 1.

4 Stars

**Finders Keepers is currently available on Kindle Unlimited. If you do not already have a subscription, it is well worth the monthly fee! There are loads of books available to read, and you can borrow up to 10 titles at one time.

**Jewelry has been created for this book! {squeal!!} I had the best time making 5 designs inspired by this book, plus I had the great fortune of interviewing Sarah about the jewelry featured in this book. Come on over to read this Jewelry Stories post for all the juicy details!
