Jewelry Stories from The Prince of Spies

Thank you so much for joining me today for my latest edition of Jewelry Stories! I cannot tell y’all how much I enjoy bringing these posts to you every week.

For this week’s post, we’re going to revisit the Hope and Glory series by Elizabeth Camden. I hope you’ll forgive me that I’m going out of order in featuring these books, but everything for book three came together much quicker than it’s coming for book two… Hopefully, I will be featuring jewelry from A Gilded Lady in a couple more weeks. 🙂

But for today, it’s all about Luke from The Prince of Spies. I have seen in so many places where readers liked this book the most out of the entire series. While I did enjoy it, Gray from The Spice King is one of the most swoon-worthy heroes I’ve read about in a LONG time! Luke was not able to surpass him, but I still liked reading about his character and his relationship with Marianne.

I grabbed two excerpts from this book for my inspiration. Sorry…not as much inspiration in this one as The Spice King, but I think you’ll find these newest pieces are quite fitting. I’ll see you at the end for more in-depth discussion about my inspiration.

The carriage turned around, and he noticed a flower cart brimming roses and carnations. The rest of the city was dreary, overcast, and covered in snow, but the splash of red caught his eye.

“I wonder how they get roses to bloom in January.”

He visited a jeweler’s shop and found an enamel pendant shaped like a small spray of forget-me-nots. The pale blue petals were the exact shade of Marianne’s eyes.

How about those lines, eh?! Ms. Camden is such a masterful writer and brings words to life in such a unique and colorful way. Red roses are so commonly used as a featured flower (with good reason sometimes), and I’ve only had one other opportunity to use them since I started Jewelry Stories. I couldn’t resist them for The Prince of Spies, and had to surround a red rose with white pearls to represent the “snow” from the excerpt above.

The forget-me-nots were a challenge at first. Originally, I wanted to find a true enameled pendant or charm in blue, but that was easier said than done. While I did find one, it just didn’t have the look I was going for to match the story. Luke may have gotten something for Marianne that was much different than what I have featured above (they weren’t short on money, I can tell you that), but I wanted to incorporate something that actually looked like a forget-me-not as much as possible. They are such tiny, yet beautiful, flowers.

That’s all for this week! I promise, I will have new designs for A Gilded Lady very soon. I absolutely cannot leave it out as Caroline is the epitome of elegance and grace as the First Lady’s chief assistant. There were at least 4 sections that I jotted down for reference which will hopefully translate into 4 new pieces. Time will tell!

If you’d like to get notified of future Jewelry Stories (and especially when I release the designs for A Gilded Lady), take a minute to sign up for my email list so you can get notifications when that next post goes live.

Until next time!
