An Unexpected Arrangement Book Review

Book Description

He needed a fresh start, but twin babies weren’t part of the plan…

Hoping to start over, Jack Tomlinson intends to leave his hometown—until twin babies are dropped on his doorstep. He needs help, and the best nanny he knows is Laramie Chambers. As they bond over the babies, Jack can’t help but feel drawn to Laramie. But proving he’s not just her friend’s irresponsible brother could be a bigger challenge than suddenly becoming a dad…

My Thoughts

I’m starting to become a sucker for stories that include little babies, and An Unexpected Arrangement gave me not one, but two little ones as part of this unconventional romance.

Jack and Laramie are thrust together unexpectedly as he needs her help in taking care of twin girls that arrive on his doorstep. His past has caught up with him after a one night stand, and a social worker informs him that their mother is now deceased. Poor Jack – he doesn’t know the first thing about diapers, cribs, or making a bottle, but thank Heavens, his friend Laramie does. He knows that she has been a nanny, and is the first person he calls to help him through this new dilemma. He’s too embarrassed to call his family for help as he’s pushed them outside his life for so long.

Laramie has held a torch for Jack for a long time. She agrees to help Jack for a few weeks as a nanny, but vows that she will keep their relationship strictly professional. She’s trying to set out on her own as an entrepreneur as she believes it’s the only way she can help her grandmother with money to care for her grandfather. She also has plans for the summer that have been in place for months, and an unexpected job as a nanny is not what she expected to spend all of her free time doing.

I empathized with Jack so much – even though my girls are well past 6 months old! Raising babies is hard work, and even harder for someone that has no experience! I also empathized with Laramie as her grandfather has Alzheimer’s, and her grandmother is trying so hard to manage his care on her own.

This was my first experience with this newish author to the Love Inspired line, and it was such a sweet contemporary romance! I liked that the author did not shy away from creating characters that have a past they’re not proud of, and sometimes, mistakes come with life-changing consequences. I very much want to read about the other characters, too – especially Landon. I can already tell that he is going to be a swoon-worthy hero in the next installment of the Merritt’s Crossing series.
