Homecoming Book Review
Book Description
A heart broken twice from love and family. Can a trip to the ranch give her a second chance with both?
Sheryl Kyle isn’t the trusting type. After all, her abusive late husband and her disapproving stepfather haven’t given her much reason to feel otherwise. But when a rugged rancher named Mark seeks her out she learns her stepfather is on his deathbed. And his dying wish is for her to return to Sweet Creek for one last chance to reconcile…
Mark can’t help but be fascinated by Sheryl. Despite hearing the worst about her from her stepbrother, he’s drawn to the hauntingly beautiful woman. When his ranching partner suffers an injury at the worst possible time, he’s surprised and delighted that Sheryl agrees to work by his side…
As Sheryl and Mark’s friendship deepens, she suppresses her growing feelings toward him. Can she forgive her family and herself before Mark too becomes a man of her past?
Homecoming is the first book in the Sweet Creek Series of Christian romances. If you like chemistry on the ranch, moving tales of redemption, and second chances, then you’ll love Carolyne Aarsen’s tale of old wounds and new loves.
My Thoughts
I enjoyed this sweet romance with characters that have earned some bumps and bruises along the way. Sheryl finds it hard to trust anyone, much less a new man that has dropped into her life. Mark has been rejected, but finds fulfillment working the ranch land around him.
The vivid imagery of the ranch with the mountains surrounding them pulled me into their environment, and it was easy to see why Mark wanted nothing more than to live and work that land for the rest of his life. The romantic elements were slow to enter, but when they did…whoo, a little bit steamier than I expected!
I’ve read several books by this author over the years, and this is one of her better ones. I wish I could give it a rating higher than 3 stars, but the audiobook version was hard to follow because there were so many characters. I’m thinking most of those extra characters are going to show up in the remaining books of the series, but it’s a pet peeve of mine for there to be so many in the initial installment. I’d like to read the rest of the series, but maybe in print instead of audio.
